As health insurance can bring great benefits, every individual and family may need to choose an insurance plan best suited to their needs and budgets. There are four basic types of plans available for you to choose from.

Major medical insurance is insurance designed to cover large and expensive medical procedures. It is designed to cover accidents, unexpected health concerns and long hospital stays.

The deductible is often higher than regular insurance, and premiums are slightly higher. In Major Medical Insurance, the insured is responsible for paying a deductible before insurance pays benefits. Then, the insurance companies pay 80% of the medical bills and the insured would be responsible for the remaining 20%.

HMO plans are a kind of managed care healh insurance plan. HMO’s, also known as health maintenance organizations, are companies that have contracts with doctors and other health care providers and they are directly involved in the medical treatment of their customers. Unlike traditional health coverage, an HMO sets out guidelines under which doctors can operate. On average, health care coverage through the use of an HMO costs less than comparable traditional health insurance, with a trade-off of limitations on the range of treatments available.

A PPO or Preferred Provider Organization is a group system of health care organized by an insurance company. Physicians, health care providers of all types, hospitals and clinics sign contracts with the PPO system to provide care to its insured people. These medical providers accept the PPO’s fee schedule and guidelines for its managed medical care.

A POS or Point of Service plan is another type of managed care group health insurance with characteristics of both an HMO and a PPO. There is more flexibility than in the HMO plans and less than in a PPO.

Above all, thanks to the great benefits of healh insurance, every individual and family can save a lot of charges by choosing the most suitable insurance plan.
